Boston gets grant to “cold iron” fishing boats
The Massachusetts Port Authority has received a $400,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to install additional power stations on the fish pier in Boston so fishing boats and visiting vessels will be able to 'plug in' for electricity while tied up.Massport said the program, to be completed later this year, would significantly improve air quality through a 95 percent reduction in engine idling and air pollution.
Massport maintains stations on the pier that supply shore-to-ship power for as many as four docked vessels; the grant will allow it to add stations for 12 more boats.
