Corpus Christi port gets wind farm

   The Texas port of Corpus Christi officially started operations this week of six large wind turbines as part of the first phase of its Harbor Wind Farm.
   The project, which was developed by Revolution Energy on the north side of the Port Corpus Christi Inner Harbor, is one of the first wind farms located on industrial port property in North America.
   Revolution Energy began developing the Harbor Wind project in 2006. The $20 million project was financed using new markets and renewable energy tax credit financing from U.S. Bank and a commitment from Revolution Energy. The project, which was scheduled to begin operations in early 2012, started transmitting power to the grid last month.
  The Harbor Wind farm generates enough electricity to power about 2,500 homes.
   “The port has been very supportive of this project from the very beginning,” said Tibor Hegedus, general manager of Revolution Energy. “Our wind project is another sign of the diversification of energy supply at the port and the local community.”
