APMT purchases cranes for new Italian terminal

The terminal operator ordered four ship-to-shore gantry cranes and 14 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes for the APM Terminals Vado, scheduled to open Jan. 2018.    APM Terminals signed an agreement for the construction and delivery of four ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes and 14 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes (ARMGs) for its new Vado terminal, which is currently under construction at the Port of Savona Vado in Northwest Italy.
   The APM Terminals Vado terminal is scheduled to open in Jan. 2018. The four STS cranes are expected to be delivered to the terminal in March 2017 and the 14 ARMGs are expected to arrive the following month, APMT said.
   APMT is expanding into the Ligurian coast as part of the port’s master plan to establish new global supply chain access to markets in Northern Italy, Southern France, Switzerland and Germany.
   The terminal operator is investing 150 million euros into the Vado terminal and the Italian government is providing 300 million euros for civil works for the project.
   The new terminal, which will handle containerized and liquid bulk cargo, will feature a 17-meter depth (just under 56 feet). The terminal will have the ability to handle vessels up to 18,000 TEUs and have an annual throughout capacity of 800,000 TEUs.
   In addition, the terminal will be integrated operationally with the Vado Reefer Terminal facility, which APMT acquired from the fruit and vegetable importer and distributer GF Group in August 2015.
