| Anderson |
Anderson, who already serves as FMC commissioner, will carry out the remainder of the five-year term expiring on June 30, 2012.
The FMC chairmanship was vacated in late 2006 when Steven R. Blust finished his term and became president of the Institute of International Container Lessors.
The FMC is an independent federal agency responsible for the regulation of ocean-borne transportation in U.S. international trade. The agency is governed by a board of five commissioners. Each commissioner is nominated by the president and must be confirmed by the Senate.
Prior to joining the FMC, Anderson served as vice president of public affairs and government relations at J.M. Family Enterprises. Earlier, he served as director for public affairs, marketing manager and assistant to the president of Hvide Marine.
President Bush also intends to nominate Californian Carl B. Kress to FMC commissioner. If approved, Kress will serve for the remainder of a five-year term expiring on June 30, 2011.
Kress currently serves as regional director for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency. Prior to this, he served as chief of staff at the agency. Earlier in his career, Kress served as counsel to the commissioner at the International Trade Commission.
