LOS ANGELES INBOUND CONTAINER TRAFFIC UP 22% IN APRIL    The volume of inbound containers has continued to soar ahead of last year’s levels at the port of Los Angeles, as the Californian port reported a 22-percent increase in loaded inbound boxes, to 258,026 TEUs, up from 210,723 TEUs in April 2001.
   Loaded outbound containers were up 3 percent in April, to 91,114 TEUs, and the number of empty containers that moved across the docks of the port increased by 14 percent, to 135,159 TEUs.
   Total container traffic at the port of Los Angeles rose by 16 percent in April, to 484,299 TEUs, up from 417,421 TEUs in April of last year.
   In the first four months of the current calendar year, port container volume totaled 1.76 million TEUs, an increase of 14 percent on the 1.55 million traffic handled in the same period of 2001.
