CBP expands availability of truck manifest

CBP expands availability of truck manifest    U.S. Customs and Border Protection said it is ready to gradually rollout its electronic truck manifest to other parts of the nation after successfully testing the system at a cluster of entry ports in the state of Washington.
   The truck manifest is part of the Automated Commercial Environment being developed by CBP as a modern tool for processing international trade-related information and communicating with the import/export community. The truck manifest module is designed to eliminate the use of paper-based documents at border checkpoints and give inspectors an integrated view of the cargo and its compliance history. Truckers will be able to electronically submit their manifest directly to Customs and get quicker release at the border.
   CBP said it plans to expand the truck manifest project to ports near select hub cities, such as Douglas, Ariz., and Detroit.
