L.A. meetings provides transportation testimony to feds The Congressionally chartered National Surface Transportation Policy and Revenue Study Commission will meet with California government and business leaders today and Thursday to study ways to reduce traffic and find ways to fund future transit projects in the state.
   During the commission's visit to Los Angeles, senior transportation and policy experts selected by the President and Congress, including U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters, will hear testimony from local and state transportation officials and regional business leaders, including Will Kempton, director of California's Department of Transportation and the senior vice president for Safeway's supply operations. The meetings are open to the public and following testimony, members of the public will be allowed to comment.
   The meetings will start at 1:30 p.m. today at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority Building Auditorium, One Gateway Plaza, at the intersection of Vignes Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. Public comment will begin at 5:15 p.m. Thursday's testimony period will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run through the public comment period at 12:15 p.m.
      Commission members scheduled to attend the two sessions are:
   * Peters, U.S. DOT secretary.
   * Frank McArdle, senior advisory to the General Contractors Association of New York.
   * Frank Busalacchi, Wisconsin Secretary of Transportation.
   * Steve Heminger, executive director, San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
   * Matt Rose, chief executive officer, Burlington Northern Santa Fe.
   * Tom Skancke, CEO, The Skancke Co.
