JAXPORT receives approval to import additional produce

The Port of Jacksonville was granted approval to import select cold-treated products from Peru, Uruguay and Argentina.    The Port of Jacksonville announced it was granted approval by the federal government to import apples, grapes, blueberries, pears and citrus from Peru, Uruguay and Argentina.
The port will begin participating in the pilot program, which is jointly run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, on Oct. 1.
Since these goods are typically imported through northern U.S. ports and trucked to the southeast, the approval will allow for fresher produce and reduce supply chain transportation costs.
The Port of Jacksonville, which provides over 3 million cubic feet of on-dock refrigerated space and over 30 million cubic feet of temperature-controlled warehouse space in Northeast Florida, offers a variety of reefer services including order picking, freight consolidation, blast freezing, USDA inspection, fumigation and flexible shipping and receiving hours.
In addition, the port is located near three U.S. interstates – I-10, I-95 and I-75 – and is served by CSX, Norfolk Southern and Florida East Coast Railway.
