Port of Rotterdam unveils plans for new harbor

The Port of Rotterdam Authority announced the construction of Yukon Harbor, which will include a new LNG Breakbulk terminal.    The Port of Rotterdam Authority announced plans for the construction of the Yukon Harbor, which will be located on the north side of the Yangtze Canal between the Euromax Container Terminal and the Gate terminal of Vopak and Gasunie.
Once complete, the harbor will be 255 meters long, approximately 150 meters wide and 7.5 meters deep.
The project will be executed by consortium Hakkers Van Oord and was commissioned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
In addition, Gate terminal will open a new LNG Breakbulk terminal at the Yukon Harbor next year, which will allow for liquefied natural gas to be loaded onto bunker ships and small-scale LNG-tankers. The terminal will have a maximum capacity of 280 berthing slots a year, Gate Terminal said in a statement. Construction at the terminal began in March of this year, which will become operational at the end of the first half of 2016.
The new LNG Breakbulk terminal coincides with the Port of Rotterdam’s plan to encourage the transition from oil fuel to LNG as fuel for the shipping industry.
