   Deutsche Lufthansa AG said Wednesday that Christoph Franz will succeed Wolfgang Mayrhuber as chairman and chief executive officer of the Lufthansa Group and that Lufthansa Cargo chief Carsten Spohr will become chairman and CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, effective Jan. 1.
   The Lufthansa board also promoted Karl Ulrich Garnadt to chairman and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. He is in charge of hub management and passenger services for Lufthansa Airlines.
   The company credited Mayrhuber for steering the company through economic and labor crisis during his eight years at the company's helm.
   Franz is deputy chairman of Lufthansa Group and chairman of Lufthansa Airlines. He previously served as CEO of Swiss International Airlines, a Lufthansa subsidiary.
