Holidays will bring 8.8% growth for FedEx

The integrator plans on hiring 50,000 seasonal workers.    FedEx is predicting an 8.8-percent increase in holiday peak-season shipments this year compared to last year’s results.
   Officials said they will move 290 million shipments between the Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
   FedEx has marked Dec. 15 as the busiest day of the year, saying it will handle 22.6 million shipments, but there will also be peak days on the first three Mondays of December. On each of those days, officials are expecting to see more than 20 million shipments.
   On its busiest day in 2013 — Dec. 16 — FedEx handled 22 million shipments. That results was a sharp rise from the busiest day in 2012, during which it handled 19.9 million shipments.
   To handle the additional volume, FedEx will add 50,000 seasonal workers. The company has said it will invest $1.2 billion in its ground offering during fiscal year 2015, which began June 1.
