Proposed Scottish railfreight park receives approval

The Mossend International Railfreight Park, designed to enhance rail capacity between Scotland the rest of the United Kingdom and European markets, was officially granted approval Aug. 4 by the Scottish Ministers.    The Mossend International Railfreight Park (MIRP), a proposed rail freight terminal in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, was granted official approval Aug. 4 by the Scottish Ministers.
   The facility, which will be operated by rail transport operator Peter D. Stirling Ltd., will better connect Scotland’s raifreight capabilities with the rest of the United Kingdom and European markets, according to MIRP.
   Approval for the new facility came during a time of increased demand for rail freight service in Scotland to help drive the economy.
   MIRP will consist of adjoining distribution facilities designed to allow businesses to shift long distance freight from road to rail; offer adjacent warehousing and manufacturing space adjacent to the terminal; and offer low carbon distribution, service and logistics facilities, which will allow the direct loading of goods to and from trains.
   Peter D. Stirling Ltd. already operates the Mossend Railroad in Mossend, Scotland, which provides direct road and rail link throughout the UK and continental Europe.
