Tulsa Port of Catoosa sees volumes surge in February

The inland river port in northeastern Oklahoma saw barge tonnage skyrocket 40 percent month-over-month in February to 186,951 tons.    The Tulsa Port of Catoosa saw total barge tonnage surge 40 percent month-over-month in February to 186,951 tons, the port said.
   During the month, inbound shipments of dry fertilizer represented the largest increase, going from six barges transporting 9,445 tons in January to 49 barges carrying 74,949 tons in February.
   In addition, outbound shipments of soybeans and soy products inched up in February, while wheat volumes also increased.
   Overall, total shipping for the entire McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, a 445-mile channel that starts at the Tulsa Port of Catoosa and runs southeast through Oklahoma and Arkansas to the Mississippi River, reached 1.23 million tons in February, of which 702,234 tons were shipped through Oklahoma.
   The Tulsa Port of Catoosa handled 15 percent of cargo shipped on the navigation system in February and 27 percent of cargo that moved through Oklahoma during the month.
