Rand McNally rolls out next gen TruckPC

   Rand McNally has unveiled a new hardware design and upgrades for its TruckPC mobile communication fleet management system, with a focus on significantly reducing the size of the mounted units and dropping its price under $1,200.
   The new box, the TPC 7600, is about one-third of the size of the previous generation and features comparable processing power and Windows 7. The company said its smaller size will not reduce the effectiveness of its high-sensitivity in-cab antenna, so the new generation can be installed in more areas around the cab.
   The TPC 7600 is a fully compliant system that helps companies manage hours of service, backs up its data to an online portal, facilitates two-way communication, supports in-cab video playback, allows for onboard printing and scanning, and supports email and attachments. The device can connect via cellular and Wi-Fi networks by default, and an optional module adds in satellite communications support.
   This is the sixth major revision of the company’s TruckPC platform and the TPC 7600 will be available in August.
