DP World, Masdar to collaborate on clean energy initiative

Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar will provide energy and project management resources to terminal operator DP World in Middle Eastern and African ports.    Port operator DP World and Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on clean energy solutions for ports in the Middle East and Africa.
   Masdar will provide DP World ports with cost effective power generation with a focus on remote or off-grid areas, as well as project management services such as community projects and DP World operations.
   The first collaborative activity will be for Masdar to review port operations, particularly hybrid solar photovoltaic such as diesel plants, water treatment and other technical advisory services for power generation, at the Port of Berbera in Somaliland. 
   According to DP World Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, “This collaboration is an important step in contributing towards achieving the UAE 2021 vision and implementing the Dubai 2021 plan as well as the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, which is focused on developing the UAE into a knowledge-led economy.”
   Masdar routinely provides renewable energy access to remote locations ranging from Pacific island micro-grids and rural solar home systems in Afghanistan and Morocco, to onshore wind in the Republic of Seychelles and off-grid community solar PV projects in Egypt, said the company.
