Tech Bytes: Descartes and MatchBack Systems

NSK Europe uses Descartes’ cloud-based Transportation Manager IS solution, while MatchBack Systems, Inc. opens European office in Rotterdam.    The logistics software provider Descartes Systems Group said Wednesday that NSK Europe, a global manufacturer of rolling bearings, automotive components and steering systems, is using Descartes’ cloud-based Transportation Manager IS solution.
   Transportation Manager IS is a network-based shipment planning and execution solution for truck, air, ocean and parcel. The solution is cloud-based and can be used end-to-end or on a modular basis. It enables companies like NSK Europe to efficiently turn purchase or sales order information into transport orders, manage carrier contracts, optimize transportation plans, connect to trading partners, better control freight flows, track shipments and inventory, audit freight invoices, and manage supplier and transportation carrier performance.
   “Descartes Transportation Manager IS enables us to accurately manage a large volume of shipments daily and helps assure selection of the right logistics providers to meet our delivery and cost requirements,” said Ronald Cune, planning and support manager for NSK Europe. “We have better insight into our shipment lifecycle through real-time, end-to-end visibility. This allows us to keep customers up-to-date on the status of their shipments and helps us reduce our order-to-cash cycle time.”

   The container matchback software provider MatchBack Systems, Inc. has started an office in Europe, headquartered in Rotterdam, the company said Tuesday.
   MatchBack Systems recently launched a software-as-a-service MatchWerks solution in North America to automate the matchback process and management of empty containers in the supply chain.
   Matchbacks occur when an import container and an export booking are paired inland, eliminating the need for the container to be delivered back to the port empty. The neutral and open platform supports any motivated party interested in matchbacks, including shipping lines, integrators, truckers and shippers, the company said.
