Miles leaves CP Ships, Webber to follow

Miles leaves CP Ships, Webber to follow    Ray Miles, a veteran of the container shipping industry for more than 30 years, will retire Saturday as chief executive officer of CP Ships, following the liner carrier’s recent acquisition by Hapag-Lloyd parent company TUI AG.
Also leaving is CP Ships’ Chief Financial Officer Ian Webber, who will depart at the end of January.
TUI is set to announce the restructured CP Ships executive management team in the first week of January
Miles joined CP Ships as CEO in 1988 when it was known as Canada Maritime. During his time, CP Ships acquired nine shipping lines including historical names such as Lykes, Canada Maritime and Australia New Zealand Direct Line. Recently, the company ended its multiple brand strategy, adopting the single brand of CP Ships.
Miles has also served as chairman of the World Shipping Council and Box Club. He was a director for the West of England P&I Club.
“Throughout his career Ray has had a tremendous influence on our industry. He transformed an underperforming single-route two-vessel shipping line into a consistently profitable top-20 international carrier,” said Michael Behrendt, chairman of CP Ships and Hapag-Lloyd, in a statement.
“As the first chairman of the World Shipping Council, he oversaw the development of the container shipping industry’s highly successful cooperative relationship with the U.S. government on maritime security. Ray has, in fact, helped steer the course of liner shipping,” Behrendt said.
