ICTSI launches new terminal in Manila
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. is constructing a new terminal gate at its flagship, Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), which will feature computer imaging and tracking systems, electronic boom barriers, and weigh bridges. All containers coming in the terminal will be weighed, enabling MICT planners to accurately plan vessel stowage to ensure the stability and safeness of a vessel before leaving the terminal. Weighed containers will also ensure better yard operations as containers are placed at the right slots.
The new gates will capture digital photographs of containers and trucks as they enter the terminal, with the captured images stored in a database that will be the basis for terminal checkers to execute container handling. Further, drivers' identities entering the terminal will be validated and checked, and their photographs will be taken.
The new gate system will have: four truck lanes with imaging systems; 16 driver kiosks with biometric fingerprint scanners, voice over Internet protocol speaker and call button systems, proximity card readers, barcode readers, driver cameras, and LCD screens; four radiation portal monitors; and four 100-ton weigh bridges.
The new MICT Central Gate will open in April this year, and is expected to be fully operational by June.
