“With their 1,365 reefer container plugs, the newbuildings are the container ships with the biggest reefer capacity worldwide,” Hamburg Sud said.
The “Monte Pascoal” will initially be chartered out for several months to the French shipping line CMA CGM before being deployed by Hamburg Sud.
The remaining three sister ships will be delivered by the fall of 2005.
All six vessels are expected to be deployed by Hamburg Sud in its Europe/East Coast of South America service.
