Foo, who started his career at NOL in 1985, will report to David Lim, group president and chief executive.
With Foo and Lim, NOL now counts two former members of the Singapore government among its senior executives.
“Both of them left politics,” a spokeswoman for NOL told American Shipper. She said Foo's business and public service experience will be useful to the company.
NOL said that, as deputy president, Foo “will lead the group’s corporate planning function, and spearhead its investments into new markets and business areas.”
In addition to his career as a politician, Foo has held senior positions in both air and sea transport sectors.
He was senior vice president at Singapore Airlines from 2000 to 2002 and worked for NOL from 1985 to 2000, most latterly as executive vice president of corporate finance from 1997 to 2000.
Foo will remain the chairman of the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board, SPRING Singapore.
Like Lim, Foo also remains a member of parliament of Singapore.
Controlled by Singapore government entity Temasek, stock market-listed NOL is going through a major renewal of its senior management. Its longstanding chief financial officer, Lim How Teck, is leaving the group in June, while APL Logistics' CEO Hans Hickler, will leave NOL May 15.
