Thackrah to direct Military Sealift Command

Thackrah to direct Military Sealift Command    The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command has named John Thackrah as executive director.
   Thackrah, a member of the federal government's Senior Executive Service, will oversee the command's business operations and serve as a senior advisor to the commanding admirals. He replaces Richard Haynes, who has held the post since 1997.
   Based in Washington, the Military Sealift Command is the ocean transportation provider for the Defense Department, responsible for the operation of more than 110 civilian-crewed, noncombatant ships supporting military and humanitarian missions worldwide.
   Thackrah comes to the command from the Navy’s Strategic Systems Program, where he served as the principle deputy. He began his Navy career in 2005 as deputy assistant secretary for management and budget. Thackrah also served as assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition and as chief of staff to the assistant secretary of the Navy. Prior to his government service, Thackrah was a senior executive at United Technologies Corp.
