The ship operates in the joint MSC/CMA CGM “Pearl River” transpacific service, which already employs the 8,000-TEU “CMA CGM Hugo.”
The “MSC Texas” is 1,095.8 feet long, 140.4 feet wide (30 feet wider than the Panama Canal) and has a draft of 47.6 feet.
The “MSC Texas” is the first of “at least eight” 8,200-TEU vessels that Mediterranean Shipping Co. has ordered from shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries of South Korea, the port of Long Beach said.
Four other shipping lines have 8,000-TEU-type ships calling in Long Beach: Orient Overseas Container Line, China Shipping Container Lines, China Ocean Shipping Co. (COSCO) and CMA CGM.
