Hyundai joining U.S. East Coast/East Coast South America trade

Hyundai joining U.S. East Coast/East Coast South America trade    South Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine, a member of the New World Alliance, will in December enter the U.S. East Coast/East Coast South America trade, when it will take slots from CKYH alliance carriers “K” Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin Shipping.
   Evergreen also take space on the service, which Hanjin markets as NSA, Yang Ming as ESA and “K” Line as SAMCO.
   Hyundai will call the loop LA1 and join Dec. 1 with the southbound sailing of the vessel “San Felipe” from New York. The first northbound voyage for Hyundai is scheduled for Dec. 5 with the departure of the “Hansa Commodore” from Rio Grande.
   The service uses five ships averaging about 1,500 TEUs with a port rotation of New York, Norfolk, Savannah, Rio Grande, Itajai, Santos, and back to New York.
   “Many of our multinational clients have been asking Hyundai to expand service offerings to include South America for quite some time,” said Brian Black, senior vice president with Hyundai in Dallas.
   The Seoul-based carrier has appointed Uniocean Agencia Maritima Ltda as its exclusive agent in Brazil.
