Weston/Bean receive Corps contract for Miami River dredging    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Weston/Bean, a joint venture of Weston Solutions and Bean Environmental, an initial $11.8 million contract to dredge six miles of the Miami River’s shipping channel.
   The company is expected to dredge as much as 721,000 cubic yards of sediment to reach a depth of 15 feet. The Miami River shipping channel, which varies in width from 100 to 150 feet, has not been dredged since its inception in 1930.
   Weston/Bean could receive as much as $75 million in contracts from the Corps of Engineers in the coming years to complete the entire project.
   According to the company, dredge materials will be “dewatered” at two sites along the river and then hauled to nearby landfills.
