Interns learning the ropes at Jaxport

Interns learning the ropes at Jaxport Four high school students and four college students will get a chance to learn the ports industry first hand beginning Monday when they start summer internships at the Port of Jacksonville.
   'This program gives students a wonderful opportunity to gain experience in the local workforce and earn extra money during the summer break,' said Jaxport executive director Rick Ferrin. 'We're proud to give students this opportunity.'
   All four high school students are working in the Information Technology Department. They will be setting up desktop computers and providing network and specific computer application support for Jaxport employees.
   The high school students are involved in 'Career Academies,' referred to as 'schools within schools,' that are coordinated by the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Duval County Public Schools.
   The college students are involved in a broader array of activities. The students, who are from Florida A&M, Pennsylvania State, and North Carolina universities, have majors that include finance, international business, and political science. They will each be working in the finance, marketing, or employee services departments.
