Port Newark container terminal hosts security training drill    New Jersey state police and nine other N.J.-based bomb squads, known as the Detect and Render Safe Task Force, used the Port Newark container terminal as scene for a joint training session to respond to a mock threat.
   Teams practiced opening containers from a distance using ropes and remotely operated devices, accessing “contaminated” containers using various advanced technologies and taking measures to ensure that contents of the opened units were fully contained.
   Once the containers were opened, teams ran through various countermeasure exercises. They remotely inserted cameras to identify the contents in the containers and performed air monitoring tests. The exercises varied based on the type of potential threat a container might hold including biological, chemical, nuclear and explosive terrorist devices. The Detect and Render Safe Task Force holds a mock scenario training session every year.
