Safmarine puts old boxes to good use A school in Zambia Tuesday opened 10 new classrooms, a science laboratory and an assembly hall, all built from 25 containers donated by Safmarine Container Lines, part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group.

   Safmarine also funded the conversion of the containers at the Amano Christian School, which provides an education for mainly Aids orphans, children of Zambian Christian workers, missionaries' children and other Zambian children.

   'As global trade grows, so too does the world's container fleet, which makes it important to find permanent, innovative and sustainable uses for retired shipping containers,' said Alan Jones, Safmarine’s Africa region executive.
   Safmarine has donated more than 8,000 containers for similar projects since it first introduced its 'Containers in the Community' program in South Africa in 1991.
