NWA Cargo’s electronic bookings top 50%    NWA Cargo, the cargo arm of Northwest Airlines, said Thursday the majority of shipments it gets from customers are booked electronically using Cargo Portal Services (CPS), a Web-based portal.
   “In November, more than 50 percent of Northwest’s cargo bookings came through CPS, the first time that milestone was reached since CPS was launched 22 months ago,” the operator said.
   NWA Cargo reported that it saw an increase in its e-booking percentage after CPS introduced a template booking function in October. “The template booking function enables Northwest’s largest freight forwarder customers to efficiently manage an entire month of recurrent bookings,” it said.
   Jim Friedel, president of NWA Cargo, said e-booking helps forwarders reduce costs and increase service by minimizing paperwork, eliminating multiple phone calls.
   NWA Cargo’s goal is to have 100 percent e-bookings eventually.
