JDA study finds lack of usage in inventory, transportation systems

Supply chain software provider JDA surveyed 255 executives globally and found that fewer than half currently use inventory optimization and transportation management technology.    A new study by the supply chain solutions provider JDA Software has found that companies struggle with measuring and improving effectiveness in inventory optimization, and have not been implementing advanced technology tools in this area.
   The study, JDA Vision 2015 Supply Chain Market Study, includes perspectives from 255 supply chain executives in 17 countries. 59 percent of executives cited “deploying automation” to manage inventory as a key initiative for the future.
   On the transportation management side, respondents reported that 33 percent of all customer orders require expediting, which erodes margins significantly.
   “A surprising number of companies are failing to employ the powerful tools and best practices that can address this issue,” JDA said. “Only 26 percent of transportation organizations employ a shared services model for centralized transportation management, and only 46 percent have created a core carrier program. In addition, just 43 percent of firms employ commercially available software solutions to optimize their transportation moves.”
