Emmett becomes Texas judge

Emmett becomes Texas judge Former National Industrial Transportation League President Edward Emmett was appointed this month as a judge in Harris County, Texas, according to the NIT League’s March 9 newsletter.
   A resignation by a sitting judge created the vacancy in Harris County, which is located near Houston. Under state law Emmett must face a special election in 2008 to continue in the post.
   Emmett, a former Texas state representative, served as NIT League's president for more than a decade after coming to Washington to work in the administration of the first President Bush as a commissioner on the now-defunct Interstate Commerce Commission. Under his management, the NIT League evolved from an organization concerned primarily with domestic trucking and rail issues to one that has a large presence on the international scene.
   Emmett has run his own international consulting firm since resigning as NIT League chief in early 2003. His firm has helped organize the International Transportation Management Conference and Exhibition and done work for companies such as BNSF Railway.
