MANP increases offerings to eastern Russia

   MANP inland terminal, which is located near Moscow, has started intermodal service to the Urals, Siberia and the Russian Far East.
   Investment in the terminal since MANP’s acquisition by Global Container Service in 2006 helped set up this eventual expansion, which MANP chief executive officer, Maxim Tyomkin, said will help ensure shippers all over Russia have a sufficient number of containers for the export. Containers heading east will contain food, beverages and fast-moving consumer goods.
   “We receive empty containers from the international shipping lines, stuff them with domestic cargo and then rail the containers from MANP to the Urals, Siberia and even further east,” he said.
   “These are precisely the destinations where some of the main Russian export cargo originates,” he continued, “so this means that Russian exporters can ship their goods to the ports without incurring the extra empty repositioning costs, which can be extremely high.”
