DOT BEGINS RECRUITING FEDERAL SECURITY DIRECTORS FOR AIRPORTS

DOT BEGINS RECRUITING FEDERAL SECURITY DIRECTORS FOR AIRPORTS    The U.S. Department of Transportation has begun recruiting federal security directors to oversee cargo and passenger security, as part of the new Transportation Security Administration.
The federal security directors will be in place to lead federal security operations at the nation’s busiest airports to direct all security operations, including protection of aircraft and secured airport areas.
“These directors will have the authority and the resources to ensure that effective security surrounds civil aviation operations at each airport, so we are seeking law enforcement and security professionals with demonstrated leadership skills for this demanding responsibility,” said Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta.
In addition to managing security operations at the nation’s airports, federal security directors will be responsible for hiring and training federal security employees, and directing law enforcement activities in conjunction with local jurisdictions.
The DOT will initially fill director positions at the nation’s 81 largest airports, followed by recruitment for positions at the balance of the other 429 airports. In the meantime, the DOT has contracted with Korn/Ferry International to assist with the search for qualified federal security director candidates.
