White returns to Port of Baltimore

White returns to Port of Baltimore Maryland Democratic Gov. Martin O’Malley Tuesday announced the re-appointment of James J. White as executive director of the Maryland Port Administration (MPA), which oversees the Port of Baltimore.
   White lead the MPA for six years from January 1999 through March 2005 but resigned largely over a staffing dispute with the former Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich’s administration. White has spent the last two years as senior vice president and chief operating officer of New Jersey-based Ceres Terminals Inc.
   White will replace his successor, Ehrlich-appointed F. Brooks Royster III, who earlier this month announced his decision to step down from the post with three years remaining on his contract amid reports that O’Malley and his team were looking for a replacement.
   “When Jim entered the private sector two years ago, he left the Port of Baltimore in the best shape in its 300-year history,” said O’Malley. “Jim has a proven track record and will hit the ground running as we work together to build a more competitive and stronger port.”
