Wallenius Wilhelmsen starts China/Japan ro/ro link    Wallenius Wilhelmsen said it will start a twice monthly express roll-on/roll-off service between China and Japan aimed at catering for the fast growing trade between the two countries.
   The service will cover the Chinese ports of Shanghai/Tianjin (Xingang) and the Japanese ports of Kobe, Nagoya and Yokohama. Several other ports in both countries will be called on an inducement basis, the Scandinavia shipping company said. Yokohama will be the last Japanese port in the service rotation and will also serve as the main transshipment hub. Shanghai will be the first Chinese port of call.
   The China/Japan service will employ the 16,940-deadweight-ton “Vinni,” a vessel suited to carrying cars, buses and trucks, as well as high and heavy machinery.
   Wallenius Wilhelmsen is believed to be targeting the heavy flows of equipment from Japan to China as a main source of cargoes. The China/Japan service will also include logistics and inland transportation services.
   When required, the new service will also cover South China, Hong Kong and Huangpu, using alternative Wallenius Wilhelmsen tonnage.
   Wallenius Wilhelmsen has already provided services in China for some years.
