MARTIN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MARITIME TRUST, CO. DIES

MARTIN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MARITIME TRUST, CO. DIES    Frank G. Martin Jr., executive director of the Maritime Trust Co., died. He was 60.
   Martin began his career in the maritime port industry in the early 1970s. He was appointed general manager of the Illinois International Port of Chicago in 1978, where he developed a 2,200-acre deep draft port complex in Lake Calumet and the first container port on the Great Lakes, at Iroquois Landing on Lake Michigan.
   In 1983, Martin moved to Oregon to become the executive director of the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, a major forest products port.
   Martin became executive director of the Indiana Port Commission in 1988. He managed the development of three large public ports, two on the Ohio River and the deep draft intermodal facility on Lake Michigan. The ports developed three new shortline railroads and 11 new foreign trade zones.
   He took over operations at Maritime Trust Co., based in Greenwood, Ind., in 1999. The firm specializes in port investments. During his tenure, Martin worked closely with ports on the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific coasts on development projects in excess of $500 million.
   Martin was also active in the American Association of Port Authorities, and is credited with'creating the group’s Maritime Economic Development Committee.
   Martin will be buried in his hometown of Chicago on Friday, Jan. 25.
