Chennai sees congestion charge, 1 million TEUs Shipping lines in the India Pakistan Bangladesh Ceylon Conference last week began charging a $100 congestion fee for feeder and mainline services into the Port of Chennai.
   The container terminal in Chennai, operated by Dubai Ports World, has been beset by congestion due to growing volume and poor landside infrastructure. Late last week, the collapse of two manholes on a main road used by trucks traveling to the port saw road congestion worsen further.
   Meanwhile, volume has grown so fast that Chennai has become only the second container port in India (other than the Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai) to handle 1 million TEUs in a year, CargonewsAsia reported Monday.
