Kellogg CEO named to head U.S. Commerce Department

Kellogg CEO named to head U.S. Commerce Department    President Bush nominated Kellogg Co. Chief Executive Carlos Gutierrez as the next Secretary of Commerce, replacing Don Evans, who recently resigned. According to media reports, he was successful in turning around the fortunes the sluggish cereal and snack maker.
   Gutierrez, a Cuban immigrant, is familiar with the logistics arena, starting at Kellogg as a truck driver delivering Frosted Flakes to stores in Mexico, and working his way up the ranks, according to the president. As the head of a multinational food producer, he is familiar with challenges faced by companies engaged in global trade and sourcing.
   If confirmed by the Senate, Gutierrez’s duties in the trade arena will include helping promote U.S. exports, licensing controlled exports and managing the Census Bureau’s trade data collection.
