“K” Line, Agunsa form Latin American automotive logistics company

The Japanese ocean carrier and Chilean logistics firm have created a joint venture, KAR Logistics, to serve the growing car import market in Chile and the surrounding area.    Chilean logistics, land transport and warehousing company Agunsa has teamed up with Japanese ocean carrier Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) to form a dedicated automotive logistics company, KAR Logistics.
   The joint venture will operate within Chile and the surrounding Latin American region, as the area has seen continual growth in car imports; as a result, the new company was created to meet that demand, Agunsa said in a statement.
   KAR Logistics has an initial investment of $ 5 million and will offer transport, storage, accessorization, pre-delivery and distribution services to the dealers and importers located Chile and the wider Latin American region. 
   The joint venture has two cross-docking and storage patios located 6 kilometers from the port of San Antonio that can store more than 7,000 finished vehicles. KAR Logistics also has its own fleet of specialized chassis for transport and distribution of vehicles, all equipped with GPS.
   KAR Logistics has been operating with General Motors since May, Agunsa stated.
