Study aims to cut Mongolia’s cement transport costs    The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded Yalguun International a $250,000 grant to study the establishment of a dry processing cement plant along Mongolia’s main rail line to support domestic production.
   “Strong economic growth in recent years has boosted cement consumption in Mongolia, but the product is over 90 percent imported,” said Mark Minton, U.S. ambassador to Mongolia, in a statement. “Both the high demand and transportation costs have contributed to cement’s high price, which in turn have impeded growth in the country’s construction sector.”
   Yalguun, a Mongolian-owned company, has proposed to build a cement plant that will produce 1 million metric tons a year, an amount nearly equivalent to Mongolia’s total annual cement consumption.
   Yalguun has picked FLSmidth, based in Bethlehem, Pa., to perform the feasibility study for this project.
