“These three leaders represent a remarkable cross-section of the seagoing sector of our industry,” said John Bowers, president of the International Longshoremen’s Association, who chairs the USS committee that made the selections. “Jim Andrasick, Morten Arntzen and John Reinhart all are outstanding leaders in their own areas of liner services, tanker shipping and U.S. Department of Defense support operations.”
Andrasick was named president and chief executive officer of Oakland,
Calif.-based Matson in 2003. Matson carries containerized freight and automobiles between the West Coast and Hawaii, Guam and other Pacific islands. It is the largest subsidiary Alexander & Baldwin Inc.
Arntzen was appointed president and CEO of New York-based OSG in 2004. OSG is a tanker operator in both the international and U.S.-flag markets.
Reinhart has been CEO of Norfolk, Va.-based Maersk Line Ltd. since 2000. An arm of Denmark’s A.P. Moller Group, it has 19 U.S.-flag liner vessels that are enrolled in the Maritime Security Program and provides support to the Defense Department, operating 29 vessels under contracts.
USS is a non-profit agency established in 1942 that provides community services for the U.S. merchant mariners and member of the armed forces as well as seafarers from other countries. It operates centers in nine foreign ports in Europe, Asia, Africa, and in the Indian Ocean, and also provides seagoing libraries to American vessels through its affiliate, the American Merchant Marine Library Association.
