ACI reports 3% rise in air cargo in 2005    Air cargo shipments worldwide increased 3 percent in 2005 to 78.7 million metric tons, according to Airports Council International (ACI).
   North America volumes were flat last year at 29.9 million tons, while volumes in Europe rose 3 percent to 15.5 million tons. Volumes increased 1 percent in Latin America and the Caribbean to 36 million tons. Middle East volumes increased 8 percent to 3.3 million tons, and Asia-Pacific cargo improved 5 percent to 25 million tons. Africa volumes were flat at 1.3 million tons.
   Memphis remained the top cargo airport worldwide in 2005 as its air-freight volume increased 1.2 percent to 3.6 million tons. Following Memphis was Hong Kong with 3.4 million tons, up 10 percent; and Tokyo Narita, 2.3 million tons, down 3.5 percent. Los Angeles, the second-highest U.S. airport was in sixth place with 1.9 million tons, up 1.4 percent.
