Maersk Sealand moves to global commercial system    Maersk Sealand is moving from regional systems and local procedures to a global information technology system with standardized procedures to handle commercial tasks involving customers.
   Maersk said “an extensive project for change” called MGM will be launched in 2005. The global MGM system will be supported by three systems: Maersk Automated Rating System, Global Customer Service System and Maersk Line Invoicing System. The integrated system will handle the whole shipping process from customer rate quotation to the settlement of accounts.
   “The use of global systems ensures uniform procedures in all offices,” Maersk said.
   The Danish mega-carrier expects the new system to be more efficient than its current operations, partly through the automation of additional tasks.
   Maersk also expects the introduction of its global system to require organizational changes and create some new positions.
