Jasper County port “finalized?

Jasper County port “finalizedö South Carolina and Georgia have “finalized” negotiations on a new port to be developed in Jasper County along the Savannah River, the South Carolina Department of Commerce said last week.
   The brief announcement offered no details, but South Carolina newspapers said Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Gov. Sonny Perdue of Georgia were expected to unveil plans in the next month.
   The 1,500-acre site is on the north side of the Savannah River in South Carolina, across the river and downstream from the Georgia Port Authority’s docks.
   In March, the two governors announced their plan to develop the port and set up a task force to work out details on how to proceed with development.
