Savi to deploy RFID at Virginia ports    The Virginia Port Authority said Friday that Savi Networks will this fall install radio frequency identification technology at port terminals to enhance the security and efficiency of cargo container shipments.
   Under an agreement signed Aug. 22 with the VPA, Savi Networks will deploy a system that automatically tracks the location and security status of RFID-tagged containers.
   The Virginia Port Authority also recently installed RFID scanners from Savi rival GE Security to read that company’s container security devices, which aren’t compatible with other RFID systems. GE Security set up fixed readers at only two of the port’s three facilities, Norfolk International Terminals and Portsmouth Marine.
   Savi Networks, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and Hutchison Port Holdings, has similar agreements with a number of major port authorities and terminal operators worldwide.
