SURVEY: PAY FOR TOP SUPPLY CHAIN EXECUTIVES NEARS $200,000 IN U.S.    The median total cash compensation for the top supply chain executive of a range of companies in the U.S. is now $195,700, according to a survey from human resource consulting firm William M. Mercer, Inc.
   The remuneration figure includes base pay and short-term incentives.
   William M. Mercer’s “2001 Logistics and Supply Chain Management Compensation Survey” gathered remuneration data from 192 companies representing nearly 31,500 employees in 974 locations.
   The participating organizations included manufacturers (45 percent), wholesalers (10 percent), retailers (10 percent), utilities (4 percent), transportation firms (3 percent), and other firms (29 percent).
   The consulting firm said that it looked at remuneration levels for 54 jobs in logistics and supply chain management. Job categories included executives, middle-level management, first-level management/supervisory, professional, and hourly jobs, with individual jobs ranging from top supply chain executives to inventory control clerks.
   Besides the $195,700 figure for the “top supply chain executive,” the median total cash compensations for other executive positions are:
   * Top logistics management executive $178,700;
   * Top purchasing executive $135,300;
   * Top distribution executive $130,000.
   Median total cash compensation for other positions below senior executive level are:
   * Transportation manager $74,500;
   * Senior buyer $60,800;
   * Warehouse manager $59,300;
   * Quality control supervisor $55,000;
   * Material planner $44,300.
   Among the seven hourly positions included in the survey, local truck drivers receive the highest median total cash compensation at $19.16 per hour, followed by semi-trailer truck drivers ($14.00 per hour), inventory control clerks ($12.75 per hour), and shipping/receiving clerks ($11.33 per hour).
