AXIS SIGNS DEAL WITH HONDA, VOLKSWAGEN FOR CAR BOXES

   Axis Group Inc., a subsidiary of Allied Holdings Inc., has signed
contracts to supply Kar-Tainer units for the containerized shipment of
Honda and Volkswagen automobiles.
   Volkswagen Transport GmbH & Co. will use Kar-Tainer units to ship its A4 Golf automobiles from South Africa, where they are made, to Europe. The cars will be loaded onto the Kar-Tainer units and shipped in the same ocean containers used by Mediterranean Shipping to deliver auto parts to the
South Africa plant.
   Volkswagen expects to ship 60,000 vehicles a year over the next five years.
   Pasha Services of National City, Calif., also signed a five-year
contract to lease Kar-Tainer units to ship Hondas from the U.S. mainland to
Hawaii.
