IJS Global acquires Sri Lankan freight forwarder

IJS Global acquires Sri Lankan freight forwarder    IJS Global Inc., a Stamford, Conn.-based freight forwarder, customs broker and non-vessel-operating common carrier, said Thursday it has established a new company in Sri Lanka and acquired certain freight forwarding assets of Roton Vander (Freighting) Ltd., one of Sri Lanka’s largest and most established logistics providers, for an undisclosed sum.
   Under the transaction, all of Roton Vander’s freight forwarding employees will be retained by IJS Global, with R.M. Manivannan, Roton Vander’s director and general manager, heading the new operation. The new company will operate under the name IJS Global Lanka PTE Ltd.
   “With this transaction, we gain local expertise that we can leverage across our expanding global system,” said John Gallahan, IJS Global’s president and chief executive officer for Asia Pacific and the Americas, in a statement.
   Located at the juncture of east-west trade routes, Sri Lanka is a South Asian hub of trade, investment, communications and financial services. Liberalized trade relations between India and Sri Lanka is expected to result in a free trade region throughout South Asia and create increased opportunities for local and multinational firms based in Sri Lanka to enter the Indian market, the company said.
