China Shipping the most active idler of ships

China Shipping the most active idler of ships    China Shipping has idled the most vessels among the top 20 container lines in the world, according to a report this week by the maritime news service Alphaliner.
The Shanghai-based line has idled 21 percent of its fleet, or 96,000 TEUs of capacity. That's a tick more than Maersk Line has idled, while APL comes third, followed by Zim and 'K' Line.
In terms of what that idled percentage means relative to the carrier's active fleets, China Shipping also comes in first at 21 percent. Though Maersk has idled a huge amount of capacity, it only accounts for 5 percent of its total capacity.
Zim's nearly 20 percent of idled capacity (or nearly 50,000 TEUs) puts it second on the lists, followed by Hyundai Merchant Marine (16 percent), 'K' Line (15 percent) and APL (14 percent).
Interestingly, the top European carriers outside of Maersk have stayed away from idling, with Mediterranean Shipping Co. and CMA CGM not idling any ships and Hapag-Lloyd laying up only 2 percent of its fleet. Meanwhile, every Asian carrier in the top 20 has idled at least 6 percent of its fleet.
