Panalpina starts air cargo service Palmair to Latin America

Panalpina starts air cargo service Palmair to Latin America Swiss freight forwarder Panalpina has joined Miami-based Centurion Air Cargo to enhance its Miami gateway service to Latin America.
   The new service, called Palmair, will allow Panalpina to offer shippers direct transshipment services via Miami to main destinations in Bogota, Medellin and Barrangquilla in Colombia; Caracas, Venezuela; Lima, Peru; and Manaus, Brazil. The maiden flight for the service departed on April 6.
   Miami serves as both Centurion's base and Panalpina's gateway to Latin America for freight originating in Europe, Asia and North America. With Palmair, the two companies establish a link between the Latin American connections of Centurion and Panalpina's European road feeder network with its hub in Luxembourg.
   'Therefore it was an obvious decision for Centurion to subcontract the first leg to Luxembourg-based Cargolux, which is also a major business partner of Panalpina. This setup enables Panalpina total control of the entire cargo flow from origin to destination,' Panalpina said in a statement.
   According the schedule, the plane departs from Luxembourg on Sundays. 'This is important because the production output of European companies is usually ready by the end of the week,' said Andre Kaiser, regional head procurement of air freight for Panalpina Europe.
