The Korean shipping company said that the introduction of e-business aims to maximize efficiency and productivity.
Hyundai has set up an e-business committee consisting of six implementation teams.
The “e-shipping (container business part)” implementation team will deal with container transportation requests and related procedures and the analysis of profit via the Internet. The “e-shipping (container operation
part)” will manage container business as it relates to databases such as Internet electronic data interchange, container inventory maintenance and repair, vessel schedules and freight and service quality.
Concerning Hyundai’s car carrier service, a separate “e-shipping (car carrier part)” implementation team has been established.
The “e-cruise” team will work on information, reservations and on board processing in cruising.
Business processes, management of operational analysis and financial administration will be handled by the “e-administration” team.
And an overall “Internet integration” unit part will develop new operating systems and coordinate every part of e-business.
C. S. Kim, president and chief executive of the company, said: “Prominent companies have been changing the focus of their business directions to
embrace e-business and knowledge management in order to increase their efficiency and profit. To keep in step with this trend, Hyundai Merchant Marine will incorporate the use of e-business into its logistics service.”
